Councillors have voted to defer giving planning consent until details about travel to and from the venue have been ironed out.

Although councillors agreed that the arena will be an iconic landmark building and asset to the city, they believed that too many questions over transport remained unanswered, something that would need to be addressed before they could give the go ahead.

The move is likely to push back the opening date for the long-awaited 12,000 capacity arena by several months.

The planning application will now return to the committee at a later date.
