If given the go ahead by councillors The Mall at Cribbs Causeway will get an extension that would increase the size of the shopping centre by half.
As well as new shops the multi-million pound development would include space for restaurants, bars, housing and a public space for events. Plans also include a new multi-storey car park, bus station and improved infrastructure.
The Mall at Cribbs Causeway first opened in 1998 and currently comprises of 145 multi-purpose units. Since opening, it has received approximately 200 million visitors.
The proposal includes:
- An additional 35,350 square metres dedicated for shops (the existing Mall is 67,800 square metres)
- Up to 8,980 square metres for more restaurants and cafes
- 150 apartments
- A 120-bed hotel
- A new bus station
- A new multi-storey car park
- New roads and cycle ways
The extension would create thousands of new jobs and a boost to the regional economy. If approved, building work will begin in 2017 and the extension will open by 2021.
